The Nine Needs / Re: Freedom
« on: June 09, 2011, 08:30:43 PM »
The American diet is the leading cause of type 2 diabetes and other common diseases. Unfortunately, we're raised on this diet and it's drummed into our psyche everyday by the mere act of living in this country. Under those circumstances it's very difficult to make healthy choices.

After a long day of work and commuting, for instance, most Americans opt for the Big Mac rather than a healthy home cooked meal with a fresh green salad. And it's ironic that with all the choices afforded to most Americans, we collectively seem to make the worst possible choices regarding our health. But Americans as a whole tend to be overworked and stressed, and the choices they make are largely borne out of convenience. That's not a good excuse but it seems to be our current reality.

Dave

Announcements! / Michael Students Night (Wednesday)
« on: June 08, 2011, 10:58:06 PM »

Michael Students Night is an informal get together where fellow students can meet each week at a designated time and get to know each other. The event meets at 6PM Pacific/9 PM Eastern and usually runs for around three hours or so. Stay as long as you like, or just drop by and say "Hello."

It doesn't matter if you're a newbie, a regular, or a lurker in the Michael community -- you're all invited! Think of it as a time when you can talk, babble, chant, confess, deliberate, divulge, express, gab, gossip, influence, intone, parley, prattle, spill the beans, and verbalize without social or moral consequences. And it's with other Michael students, so it doesn't get much better than that.

We'll be meeting at the newly refurbished Michael teachings chatroom and I think you'll like the new look of the place. I've emptied all of the ash trays, steam-cleaned the carpets, removed those embarrassing stains on the couch, threw away the fast food cartons and bags -- even the moldy Ben & Jerrys containers were scuttled. The place is almost looking too sanitary now.

See ya Wednesday night!

this will be my first channel session. I am quite excited. If i cannot ask personality/overleave questions, What should i Enquire about?

I saw you during Nancy's channeled session a couple times last night, but you didn't stay to ask questions. What happened? Was there a technical problem?

Dave

The Seven Goals / Re: "Growth" Sucks !

Ah, growth is for Viagra commercials. Next time try Flow, where your essence leaves you alone and vacations somewhere in the Land of Lint.  ;)

Spirituality / Re: Spiritual Growth & Michael
« on: June 03, 2011, 08:45:16 PM »

I agree with this, all of it. I get really tired of always being forced to deal with my "stuff", while it seems most everyone else gets to run around, blissfully unaware that they are teeming with the same defense mechanisms and negative imprinting I feel obligated to drop. But I also know that this is something "I" wanted, and that there is something in me that won't let me just stop growing. So, I accept it, even though sometimes (like today) it really ticks me off.

We should create a board here where everyone posts their list of "stuff." I wonder if that would be therapeutic or similar to being pilloried in the town square? ;)

Seriously, though, finding our stuff could be quite a project. Our CF will try to stuff it down, of course, but the act of just getting it on paper in private sounds like good work.

Dave

Essence Twins / Re: Twin Soul
« on: June 03, 2011, 08:20:25 PM »
There was a popular new age book many years ago called "Twin Souls" that had nothing to do with essence twins, but new students have tried to connect the two terms ever since. You also see the term "Twin Souls" used around the Internet on various spiritual sites, and that's added to the confusion.

Well, growth is certainly popular at 40% of the population. Michael also said it's the most challenging goal, so for those who struggle with it don't feel so bad.

Sage / Re: Positive & Negative Traits of Sage

Hey Elisabeth,

I was basing my comments solely on what you said about your sister, so I hope you don't think I was discouraging her efforts. Her vivaciousness and talent should take her far.

A good example of a reality check for young jazz singers is Jane Monheit at age 22. Couple a rich, full-bodied voice with an impressive imagination for tonal color and improv and you get this:

Whoah!

Thanks for supporting live music.

Sonny is a jazz legend and a fairly approachable guy, too. And only 80 years young.

i don't remember site.

it also said all levels must finished before moving to next soul level. true or not?

That's originally mentioned in Yarbro's MFM. It's not new material. I don't recall the chapter but if it's important to you I can do some research later and find the exact passage.

Sage / Re: Positive & Negative Traits of Sage

My sage sister is studying jazz singing, and recently has gotten a lot of praise and attention from her instructors, which of course she's excited by, and the praise is definitely warranted... but we had started to notice that it was pushing her into oration, or some sort of arrogance. "I just have to tell someone how amazing I feel I am!" (more or less exact words), and other little phrases of giving her importance "I'll get you that when I'm famous, you can do my cd's cover art...".

Last week one of the other singers sort of put her in her place, "H, you don't have to brag about how well you do... " etc. etc. which she of course got quite (hysterically crying) upset over. But as she does, she has recovered quickly and with a new family-consensus-ed plan of "not telling anyone how proud I feel except for my family members or my boyfriend". It's her new pledge.

So the other day my mother said H came home and said "Mom, I'm so proud, two amazing things happened to me today with singing and I didn't tell ANYONE!", literally in all naive sincerity! ;)

Haha…Very cute!   :D

Right now your sister is doing fairly well in a relatively small pond, but as she ventures out into the world she'll discover that there are multitudes of girls her age who are unbelievably more gifted. It'll be a real game changer for her if she's not emotionally prepared.

I also think her tendency to showboat will disappear when she awakens to just how daunting musical artistry can be, and how much work is still ahead of her regarding her own shortcomings as a musician. And trust me, when she begins to chase that elusive specter of artistic perfection you'll see her former swagger get replaced real quick by a genuine humbleness.

Best,
Dave

P.S. - Is she listening to jazz instrumentalists, too?

The channels usually don't do chart information during these chats, such as role, casting, overleaves, etc..

But you can ask a personal question or something general interest.

Dave

I think the security measures I have in place disabled it. This forum software is pretty secure, but that doesn't mean spammers don't lurk. I've been banning around 20 a day. It's quite a headache.

I'm hoping to install a mod that will automate the spam issue so there's less work, but it didn't install correctly on my first try. I'll keep tweaking it.
