For me it was the concept of soul ages. I could not understand why so many apparently intelligent people just couldn't/wouldn't get ideas/concepts/practices that were so obvious and clear to me and I was usually judging them as stupid or pig-headed. I already understood the idea of maturation from developmental psychology so had a real aha moment when I understood that younger soul ages simply didn't have the 'equipment', which took me out of judgement and allowed me to save a lot of energy trying to shift them where they couldn't go. I loved the idea that as you don't judge/blame a child for not being able to do or understand beyond his level, you don't do the same to younger-souled adults. Some people have accused me of elitism, or a sense of superiority, and I don't buy those labels. For me it is a lot more elite/superior to think of them as stupid as I was doing before. Being in the moving part of intellect, stupid is not a good place to be. ;D

Later, I had a reading that confirmed my impression that I am an old Priest and that made a lot of other things in my life make more sense, too, especially the part that says that a relatively small percentage of people are either Priests, or in old lifetimes. The loneliness, the feeling of being apart and not like others that I had been made wrong for for so much of my life was now explained and I am much more at peace with myself because of it.

I have been able to use this information in talking with individuals and groups, especially with recovering addicts, who have found it liberating for them as well.

I am interested in hearing about how others came to the MT's as well, so thanks for posting this question

Blessings

I was literally attracted to the Michael Teachings by an overleaf chart sitting on an easel during a new age fair back in the early 90s. I got a brief general channeling with a few questions, which was about a million times more helpful than the rest of the new age fair combined. There was no "Woo-Woo / Ascended Masters / Grey Aliens" aspect to it, just startlingly insightful information that was 100% useful to the things of this earth. I took a class from that channel shortly afterward, and the rest is history!

It's not so much what 'attracted' me, but what spoke to me.  I had been a spiritual seeker for almost as long as I could remember.  While my mother was Anglican and did her best to encourage me to follow her in her faith - up to the point of forcing me to take first communion when I was 12 - it didn't 'take'  ;) and as soon as I could get away, I did.

I read/devoured anything and everything I could find on any sort of a spiritual/metaphysical subject - Ruth Montgomery, Jane Roberts, I forget all of them but I literally read them all - and something always seemed to be 'missing'.  Shortly after "Messages from Michael" was published I entered a New Age type of bookstore that I had never seen before.  I saw the book on the shelf, picked it up and it looked intriguing - even with the ouija board cover (which  attracted me rather than put me off).  I started to read it that night and I read it in one sitting. All of a sudden the 'missing' piece of the puzzle fell into place.  I 'knew' with as strong a sense of  knowledge that the sun would rise in the morning, that this 'teaching' resonated to the very heart of my being.  The missing piece of the puzzle was found.

I haunted bookstores hoping for 'more'; I wrote the publisher and the author and my letters vanished into some big black hole.  When "More Messages from Michael" was published, I pounced on it and devoured it as well.  I was a Michael student. Even though my attempts to get in touch with the group netted zero results, I knew that even if I was the only person in the world who was on this path, it was my path, my teaching.

I continued to delve into channeling and using the ouija board myself with great success and discovered/re-learned more about our spiritual identities, often asking about Michael and getting confirmation of this validity.  It wasn't just me who recognized Michael, but others on the other side were 'familiar' with them as well, even though they didn't follow the Michael teachings.

I discovered the on-line Michael community in 2001; lurked for a while on one of the sites, and then finally joined.  It felt very much like a coming home, of finding family with whom I had lost touch many years before.  I have had the chance to ask Michael about this 'connection' and they basically confirmed that I have been one of their students for many lifetimes, and was actually incarnate in familial relationships with some of their members while they were still incarnating, so no wonder they felt so familiar.  The teachings are so incorporated into the core of who I am now that I could not 'not' be a Michael student. :)

When I read "Messages from Michael" I was amazed at how much sense it made both logically and intuitively.  As I meditated and got private sessions I couldn't believe how much of a connection there was between the teaching and my own memories of past lives and other experiences.  It wasn't just a book to me with words in it because it directly agreed with my own feelings and experiences.  Finally, I had found a spiritual teaching that identified with the reality I live in.

I find that Michael, Seth, Lazarus, Ramtha, etc all make the same essential points about All That Is, Love, and Self-Creation.  I study them all together in one big metaphysical campfire.

What was it about the Michael teachings that initially attracted you?

I also am interested in the Soul ages. The young souls are people for whom intimate relationships with other people are a big mystery. Young souls feel different and lack social skills. Mature souls are people whose lives revolve around intimate relationships. I think the majority of people are mature souls now. I keep thinking of the movie 'Annie Hall'. That last scene.

The old souls are people who no longer need the eggs! Old souls are more into discussing unconditional or universal love.

I am a young soul.

The Michael teachings ended up being the most reasonable place to be in my search for like-minded people and just plain good "down-to-earth" good information. I "knew" things from the time I was very very young but there sure wasn't anyone to talk to about them or who even understood what I was trying to tell them.  In the 1930's and 40's there were worldly things to think about and I'm not sure that, other than churchgoers which my family wasn't, people even thought about anything spiritual much less metaphysical.

In the 50's I was working at Stanford Research and met up with a lot of neat science-oriented people - who LOVED to debate!!  And debate we did - about everything including "God" - funny thing happened at one of our get-togethers - whatever the subject was that night, it included God in a big way.  I skirted around using the word "God" and tried all the descriptive things I could think of to say.  One of the guys finally said to me "We're all talking about the same thing but you are refusing to call it the word the rest of us understand so therefore, we don't understand you.  To discuss things with others you have to use language others know!".  Wow, what a lesson for me!

Getting to know this group was a wonderful time in my life but it was over when I left and moved to L.A. where life and the "good times" got in the way.  Even then, at my party girl best, I would have flashes of insight and know.  Mostly what I knew was that no matter what it seemed physically, I was still ok and would be kept from going over the edge.  Funny how many times that was true - I would back off something and take the other path even though "I" had no idea why - just that I wouldn't go there.  And so life went on - and on and on and on - and I tried it all - some good and some bad but never boring.  And always there were the strange little peeks behind the veil where I just knew - and still no soul mate that actually could understand what I was trying to say and talk with me.   Mind you, I was never lonely cause I had this neat guide? inner being? ET? that was always there when I would listen but I still longed for a physical person who just "got it".

Long story shortened - A few years ago I discovered Seth.  Yes, yes, yes!  but still not complete.  Then I started poking around and found Bashar, Kryon (one of my favorites) , others, and finally Abraham where I thought my journey was complete.  I went on Abe cruises, went to seminars, was online every day with the group and made lots of really good like-minded  friends.   I was a tiny bit discomfited when I went to a two day seminar at Jerry and Esther's home in San Antonio - It was a great get together but it all smacked a bit of "lives of the rich and famous" - And the whole channeling seemed to be more and more about attracting the same life style rather than attracting happiness.   As the list got more and more new people (attracted from "The Secret" and such) that were more interested in physical gain (stuff, things, possessions) than in understanding the universe and all that it meant, I started looking again and that's when I found the Michaels.  Hurrah!

I don't always agree with everything the community has to say but it's all interesting.  I'm a 4th old Scholar and knowing that and my overleaves has helped me understand others as well as myself.  I feel like everyone on the list is family and it's almost like I know you all personally.  I joined the community in 2002, got the Michael books as fast as possible and  Shepherd did my chart for me in 2003.  There are still areas of the teachings that I don't understand (or frankly even care about) but overall this group and our mentors are so all-encompassing that I find  a new aha moment almost everyday.  I love being part of all this.

What attracted me to the Michael Teachings was reading the original Michael books, which were introduced to me by my roommate when I was in graduate school in the Bay Area.  Reading the material, it all "resonated" - I didn't know exactly what that meant at the time, but I knew it "felt" right. I liked that it seemed sort of psychological and orderly and that you weren't forced to believe or not to believe.  I liked that it was your choice. It seemed very modern.  I also really liked the "voice" of Michael - I thought Michael was funny and astute and on target.  This is something that I miss very much.  Although I like the information given by various channels, I really don't hear "the voice" coming from them, i.e. I don't think "pure Michael" is coming out anymore. That's too bad...

My sister-in-law gave me the first Yarbo book.  The organization of the teaching resonated with observations I had made throughout my life.  I was about  14 when I knew I had been reincarnated regardless of Catholic dogma.  I also knew I have been female more often than male.

I was a long-time Seth devotee, and when my sister dropped a copy of Messages From Michael into my lap it was love at first...okay, so I hated the book the first time I read it. I thought the concept tried to compartmentalize people and place them in boxes. But years later (around 1995) I rediscovered the teachings and the second time around was the proverbial charm.

Like others, I would say the concept of soul age fascinated me the most initially, and then little by little I began digging further into the core riches that the teachings offered concerning the psychology of the soul. It explained so much about who I was and why others were different, and from literally day one I've never lost my enthusiasm or fascination with the material. Surprisingly, for over a decade now I've tried to create educational mediums that would help students learn more about the teachings. I can't say I've enjoyed the occasional arrows from my detractors, but being of service to fellow Michael students has always been a great pleasure.

Best,
Dave

I had always been fascinated with channeling.  While taking a class with Holly Coleman, I brought in pictures of my kids.  I had been having a very challenging relationship with my daughter.  Once Holly told me she was a King/Artisan I felt a whole new world of information opened up for me.  I could now understand why my daughter was they way she was.  The information was so valuable and I began using it as a frame of reference for many of my relationships.

Before Michael "reached me" I wasn't esoteric at all. My wife was and I always thought: Ok you have your opinion and I have mine. We both had the idea to learn to hypnotize and for me it was the first step not only believing in prior lifes but to get to know about my personal past lives. I read the books from Dr. Michael Newton and Brian Weiss. I was impressed to hear about Life between Lives. I goggled this topic and came to an amazon review about the books from Varda Hasselmann, a german channel in touch with the causal plane entity "The Source". In this review was the sentence: ... just the same as the Michael Teachings. I googled Michael Teachings, found the page where you can downlosd the ebooks from the first 2 Message books, started reading and that was it. Today I have my own Michael Teachings Website in German language.

Hi to all! So good to hear so many more people attracted to the Michael Teachings! I too, have been a long time student
& use them extensively in my readings. The teachings definitely answered a lot of questions for me when I was much younger - especially, as others have pointed out that being  an old soul certainly feels less lonesome.
Namaste!

Note: I've decided to answer the question before reading any of the answers so as to be most authentically "me."

I was seeking in a very systematic fashion for "something." I'd spend weeks in Wikipedia reading about ancient history, mythology, religion, and tracing clues back and forth across Tibet to Mesopotamia. Somedays, I was nested 12 or more pages deep following links as I veered off this way and that. Somehow or other, I landed on the Michael Teachings page in Wikipedia. I had a focus.

So, I was off and running on the Michael Teachings website. But what was the single-most thing that caught and held me? Soul Ages. That made sense. I had been reading various books and authors since the early 1960s. I'd read "The Search for Bridey Murphy" as a teen in the late 50s. I'd read all of the Cayce books that were published during the 60s/70s, the Seth books, Blavatsky's "Veil of Isis," and "The Secret Doctrine," along with both the Egyptian and Tibetan "Books of the Dead." Reincarnation was the only thing that made sense to me, but I still couldn't figure out the mechanics of it.

The way that Michael discusses reincarnation totally removes the punitive aspects of it. It simply makes everything else I've read to be pointers along the way. Even karma is "just" balance. Since I already operated under the idea of understanding coming through genuine experience, karma makes absolute sense. How can you appreciate whatever you've done without walking in the moccasins of the other? And, this includes Tao. How can Tao KNOW something without experiencing it. This is what we do.

But, having Essence go through growth and development through all of its incarnational experiences is a critical piece of the puzzle. It removes the feeling of being a puppet. What we do through ourselves includes our fragment within, which is Essence. None of us will live as the exact same Personality or incarnation again. *I* will not be born again. Essence will be.

I achieved great peace accepting the idea that there are no right or wrong choices. My entire life clicked into resonance as everything that I'd ever done MATTERED. All of it. The pleasant and the unpleasant. How else could it be? It all made sense.

The initial attraction of MT for me is to find an interpretation of everything instead of the thing itself. It’s so interesting for me to know what Michael’s view on Buddha, Jesus and Laozi, who they are, what they do and where they are from. The same as many of others, soul age is definitely fascinating. I somewhat believe in practice makes perfect (but I am kind of lazy in deeds comparing to my belief). It is much more convincing to believe in soul age than becoming enlightened suddenly or just through meditation. The observation of people in my life increased my interest to know more about MT. I think it is at least a goal for me to become more tolerant to live with people of different soul ages and overleaves, though I know I am still very unskillful in dealing with conflicts most probably due to my aggression mode.
Another factor is not the teaching itself, but the people involved. Many are old souls. And some are impressive old7. Their values make me feel so comfortable with. Their perspectives are so enlightening. It’s a great thing for me hear what older souls say about the world before entering that phase. So far, I think they are very smart and worth learning. Without Dave’s dedication to the website, my chance of knowing MT is small. Thanks Dave~

Everything. There really is not an aspect of it that is not of interest to me. I devour this type of stuff. One thing though that MT has, that many other systems don't, is the abundance and breath of the material. Also the option to take part in live channeling chats. Later on I have also discovered that more thematic material keeps coming and I am unlikely to ever run out of material to study. I have been interested in esoterics, occult, personality systems, metaphysics and spirituality since teen years, so none of that was new to me with MT. I suppose I also resonate with Michael's particular way of explaining things. And I like systems and this is very systematic.
The fist mention of MT for me was in the comments under one of Veronica Entity YouTube videos. Hungry to find out more about Veronica or anything similar, I looked up "Michael Teachings" and ended up at Dave's site.

In 1979, right after my divorce, I was lost.  Although I joined and worked at the Rosicrucian Order, the teachings left more questions than they answered.  I found the book "Messages from Michael," and the book kept me enthralled, interested and engaged.  I read it over and over and "knew" my own overleaves from the information given.  Soon, I sought out Michael channels and learned I was a 4th level old Sage, which truly resonated with me and explained why, in the midst of any crisis, I seek humor.  Since then, I have been privileged to channel Michael and continue to be amused by how much humor they bring to truth.

The beauty of Michael is that each essence role feels connected by what is uniquely "them."  With Michael....all you have to do is show up!

I ran across MfM in the early 80s, and like most Michael Students, it attracted me and immediately made sense, where Seth, Ramtha and all of that ilk were interesting information but never really coalesced. In retrospect some of the information from Seth fills in pieces. So does some of the information from Michael Newton, but Michael provides a framework that attracts me.

This is the usual reaction if you've got an agreement to study with Michael. I've never found anyone without an agreement who's attracted.

Like others, I first discovered Seth, etc. I found MFM in a New Age bookshop in Cambridge, MA in the early 80s. The incisiveness and (in most instances) great clarity of the language impressed me, in contrast to lots of the "woo woo" stuff I'd read. Probably because I'm a Scholar.... I like the emphasis on verification of information. Soul Ages explains much to me, in particular, as does Essence Contact. All these years later I'm still quite interested in the material.

I've been aware since age 4-ish that I saw the world (and people) differently than most, and I've been a seeker in earnest since high school.  Over the next 20 years, I was always on the lookout for anything (Psychology, Biology, Sociology, Spirituality, etc.) that could explain why I was different than most people or why I felt I was on some sort of quest.  I discovered the Michael Teachings about two years ago when I was drawn to seek out anything I could find on "Old Souls," and found the Michael Teachings through a self-help book by Thayer White.  In it, he strongly recommended the Yarbro writings as a source of research and learning, as over the years he'd never had a major point of contention with them.

I picked up a copy of the first book, read it, and agreed - the book seemed to firm up a lot of conclusions I'd synthesized from many sources over the years.  So I picked up the other Yarbro books as well.  MMfM and MP also had a lot of good material, but MftM seemed to wander a lot and was more vague in nature.  I picked up Shepherd's book later, but by that time I'd devoured much of the website's contents, so a lot of it was repeats.

These days, I use Soul Age and the Overleaves as a system for personal growth, and for understanding and helping people better.  I also appreciate the glimpses of what comes after reincarnating on the physical plane ends.

I wasn't attracted to it, it came to me.  A very good friend took MFM off her bookshelf one day over a decade ago and said "Here, I think you will like this."  Boy was that ever an understatement!  I read that book in a state of high energetic excitement, because as I read I was saying to myself "Yes...yes!  Of course.... I knew it!"  here, finally, were the answers I had intuited all my life but never knew how to formulate.

I love Michael and the teachings and the students. I have made wonderful friends and even met some of them IRL.  I have learned from everybody! It has all drastically changed my life for the better(I am now single, living in a different state, working a totally different job!).  I love my life and being creative and free and adventurous.

Having read Seth & Cayce in the 70's the Michael System was a natural progression. As a geeky scholar I instantly loved the clarity of the information. As an astrologer I find using the Michael System adds further insight for my clients. I am so grateful to the Michael System their information has been helpful to me on so many levels. I also think that the Newton books on between life states complements the teachings.

My Osho sanyassin friends explained the soul age and role concepts in 1988 and then invited me to a private Joya Pope presentation. I also began following my 18 day male cycles (now for over 20 years), and with that confirmation (of the information Michael makes available) I was convinced - I have also associated that info with alchemical astrology. Thank you Michael.

Since Dave ask for input, I'll add my 2 cents worth...having been involved in "spiritual work/seeking" professionally and individually, I'm very open to any message that "speaks to me"...however, I had not heard of Michael Teachings until about 8 months ago when Norm Shealy mentioned them and Shepherd Hoodwin in his newsletter.  After some time, I thought I'd take time & check this out.
WOW, when I did, BINGO, BONGO...this made so much sense to my already intuitive sense of the connection of what I called the spiritual and the human experience. Along with many traditions and spiritual modalities,  I was a student of Enneagram and loved its presentation of discovering more of your "true Selfhood" beyond the masks so it was easy for me to slide into so much of the logic of structure of MT...but it's very deep and I'm not even to first base.  I enjoy having a few moments to study and listen to what is being shared.
One of the most attractive points of MT to me is the nonjudgemental aspect of being a human in the world today...I'd already discovered and felt comfortable with this, but the whole system of MT brings out WHY you do not judge others...and when we discover and practice this, we bring more of the Pure Love into our experience collectively and individually and hopefully this will bring healing to even earth's challenges and a sense of individual freedom to be more of our Essence.
Thanks MICHEAL, Dave, Greg, Shepherd and all Folks on forum!!  :)

I'm enjoying reading the responses to this question. To take my own situation a step deeper, I was raised Jewish - reform, laid-back, but Jewish nonetheless. However, I never could quite believe in the God that I was always hearing about in services. Fast forward to the early 80s: AIDS was hitting killing people I knew, and I felt my own mortality strongly at a relatively early age (early to mid 20s). That propelled to me investigate whether anything subsisted after death. For many years I read everything about life after death that I could get my hands on. The Brits did some interesting work on this decades back, btw. Seth satisfied for a while, but the Michael Teachings appealed much more strongly to my fairly logical and linear brain.

It's been well over 30 years since I found the Michael teachings.    I found it then and still do, to be the most elegant explanation of existence I've found.

Many things in the world and my life have changed mightily since then, but the teachings continue to remain relevant and continue to guide me on this journey I have undertaken.

I had the MT essentially fall into my lap back around 1995.  I was in a used book store--the home of Scholars--and happened to pick up this book for about 50 cents:

http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Game-Digest-Group/dp/0941109011 (http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Game-Digest-Group/dp/0941109011)

I immediately resonated with the Role of the Scholar.  And I knew I was an Old soul.  It helped me so much to learn that Old souls have the attitude of "been there, done that" and as such often are ready to retire by the time they're 20!  That fit me to a tee.

I got a Michael reading and everything was pretty much dead on with what I had expected.

I still use the teachings daily as a way to frame reality.

In 1991 I was on an organic farm in Belize and flower remedies were channeled for me via Michael.
I thought this was crazy but I was desperate to heal my paralysis at the time when doctors could not help me.
I cleaned my body there and a whole new world of natural medicine was shown me.
I forgot about the Michael channeling because so much happened for me on this farm.
Two years later I was in a book store while visiting Bar Harbor, Maine and the book "Messages from Michael" literally fell of the shelf in front of me. I remembered that afternoon in the jungle and took the book home, read it, and became desperate for any Michael channeling material I could get.

It made total sense to  me.
Thank You Michael

The explanation of Soul Ages. Also the unsentimentality of Michael's 'teaching' esp in Messages of Michael (He doesnt like to be seen as a Guru). Like  its not about faith and belief, but being aware of what  is our task to progress. That this will happen whether we  'believe' it or not Confirmation of Karma and Reincarnation. Refutation of transmigration of souls,  His comments on marriage, fear being the greatest hindrance to progress and a particular disease of the planet Also his analysis of the corruption of the bible, comments about Buddism and Tao being the least corrupted etc. All this and much more resonated with  I already knew intuitively  but had never seen written.  It was as a prievious  has said, like coming home.

I became interested in eastern, and metaphysical philosophical thought through martial arts and a general desire for spiritual understanding in the 1960's.  A friend, who had listened to my explanations of my spiritual perspective, sent me a copy of Messages From Michael in 1982, and I felt the resonance immediately.  She had never read the book herself, but said that my perspective sounded very similar to the perspective of an acquaintance, who gave her a copy for me.  More Messages, Michael's People, and Michael for the Millennium continued to provide awareness and understanding over the years.  The teaching has been the basis for my spiritual journey ever since.  I work in the entertainment and media industry, and had decided (years ago) to write a fiction novel that has its' basis in the Michael Teaching. Now that the actual writing is in progress, I recently went online for some research, and found this site.  The lack of dogmatic, ritualistic requirements, and the understanding that all is choice (and the ramifications thereof) have been the cornerstones of the Michael Teaching for me.  Thank you for providing a Michael teaching vehicle, and continuing information for all of us who wish to participate.

Hi,

I got lucky at my local library finding one of the early Yarbro books I think which served as a good introduction to roles, soul ages, and the excitement of a series of books exploring the topics which are still my favourite topics: past lives with significant others such as Essence Twins, Travelling Companions, Task Companions and Heartlinks.
These are the things that hooked me as I've felt since I was a teenager that my energy at death doesn't just vanish, like different chemical states it progresses into something else ie solid liquid gas as a sort of an analogy.
Prior to coming to the Michael Teachings I had devoured life between life books by Newton, Stevenson, Weiss and Stokes. I had felt validated by the experiences related in these books and have wanted to find a community to talk about the topics, and get some channelling done regarding my past life experiences. I have had my overleaves channelled but not much past life channelling, and this to me is what I am most excited about. Anna

There was an article many years ago in the Namaste/Odyssey magazine on soul ages which really created a life changing perception for me. Suddenly you could understand the functioning of people and move away from judgement and anger. As a practicing psychologist i use it frequently to help patients understand why people act in a certain way and it helps them to move to a better place of understanding, forgiveness and acceptance.

My first experience with the Michael Teachings was much like Dave's.  A friend gave me MfM swearing she had just stumbled upon it and felt she should buy the book for me.  I looked at the outside cover and was not impressed; my first 20+ pages were not enthusiastic, and like Dave, I didn't like the idea of putting everyone into those little "boxes" and "levels".  So I closed and laid the book aside.  Then day after day, it howled "Read Me!!"  So finally I did. That was back in the mid 80's.  And then I read them all... again and again...underlining and highlighting.  And as I read, I kept thinking, "I knew that" and wondering just how did I know that, until I received my overleaves from Joya, and they explained THAT.  For me, they are not just teachings, they are liberating...freeing.   Pat Wynn      BTW, Dave, thanks for all you do.  You're appreciated.

"Grounded practical advice on a vast a-ray(sp?) of topics," is a great answer.

Of greatest value to me has been the organization and explanation of that strange mystical and not well known, or described, realm that is said, but not well proven, to exist beyond death. The "Non-Physical Realm" as I saw it referred to in the Journal of Near Death Studies. i.e. All the material outlined in Jose Steven's Michael Handbook and expanded upon in cassette tapes by JP van Hulle regarding Planes of existence, Escence(sp?), Entity, Cadre, Soul Age, Role and various other Overleaves, and the webs of connections among them all (and perhaps other structures).

I've found Michael's framework to be validated by NDE, Newton's hypnotic regression to past lives, Tart's investigation of "Children Who Remember Past Lives" research AND many of the differing explanations of "the between life state" I've seen in many other channeled religious souces.

Role and Soul Age are the concepts I find of greatest value, on a week in week out basis, while manouvering through the emotional thicket of our emerging Mature soul age social world.

I have been an avid metaphysical student since college days. Raised Roman Catholic (and with my mothers' relatives mostly Southern Baptist), at first I nearly became a Jesuit, but then began questioning. And questioning. And reading, reading, reading... Christian, Judaic, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian, Bahai, Sufist, native American, and Wiccan scriptures and literature, from the Rig Veda to the Popul Vuh, the Analects to the Teilhard de Chardin, Abelard to the Q'uran, Black Elk Speaks to Blavatsky, the Qabalah to the Prinicipia Discordia.
I came across Messages from Michael not long after its publication, and though I was still ostensibly a Catholic, I had begun questioning, and it stayed with me, in the back of my mind. I then became a Buddhist, then Wiccan, then-- nothing organized. And came back to MFM. I am generally skeptical and wary of "New Ageism"  -- so many adherents seemed to me to be similar to devotees of Dungeons and Dragons, into the trappings and the mystique and not really serious students, or  else that they had traded one dogmatism for another.  But what I first loved about Michael's teachings was that, far from most other teachings, belief was not required. "Faith" -- which always seemed to me like buying a pig in a poke -- was,  far from a virtue, something to be avoided. And the more I reread and pondered MFM, the more rational it seemed, almost intuitive. I had, for example, always believed, at a deep level, in reincarnation: it had always seemed to me incredibly wasteful, not to mention cruel, that the "eternal" state of one's immortal soul was determined by the eyeblink in time that is a single human life.  Also, after long contemplation of the incomprehensible vastness of the Universe, the idea of a personal god, especially the narrowly parochial and often petty and petulant god of the Judeo-Christian/Muslim beliefs, seemed ludicrous. Yet I also felt that there WAS meaning to sentience, not so much a "purpose" as "significance"-- hard to frame it in words! -- a feeling that each individual's consciousness and experiences MATTER to the Entirety of the Universe, which is both so vast and yet (considering atomic and subatomic level structure) so intricate and finely wrought.  It seemed to me that there were glimpses of truth in most of the religions and philosophies I had studied, but that none were 100% true, by a long chalk.  MFM was one of the few sources which seemed to acknowledge much of these things. At first I was resistant to the structures -- roles and soul ages and overleaves -- but if there is symmetrical structure at a Quantum level, and at a cosmic level, why not in the architecture of consciousness? One of the things I most liked from early on is Michael's dictum that spiritual growth WILL occur... consciously or unconsciously. That belief doesn't matter in an absolute sense. (So much for "justification by faith"!) That Agape is "the love that moves the Heavens", as Dante so eloquently put it, that the idea of separation is, ultimately, illusory; and that we are all in the same boat, so to speak.  Michael's Teachings also encompass the randomness that is a feature of the Physical Plane, and harmonize the unavoidable Scathing of the Physical Plane with a Universe based ultimately on Agape.  SO: after nattering on so long, I would say in sum that what most attracted me to the Michael Teachings is that they seemed to me, if at first only subliminally, to be fundamentally TRUE.

Excellent summation, from my point of view, as the very great majority is true for me as well. Thanks for putting it into words.

I discovered this teaching three years ago at a point that I later learned was the end of my fourth internal monad, which is not surprising in retrospect. I'd been raised Protestant Christian and slowly moved away from dogma during the last decade until I'd come to a tipping point where I would rather adopt atheism than continue to go along with dogma. I'd accepted evolution, but could not accept oblivion.

It was while in this philosophical no-man's-land that I was spending the day with my wife and kids, and she remarked that our daughter is an old soul in a baby body (not philosophical, a turn of phrase). That was a light bulb moment, my eyes grew wide, and I went online. My first search result was michaelteachings.com, so I read everything the site had to offer. A couple days later, I purchased MFM. I was stunned by the information that so corresponded with my own worldview at that point in time.
